A beautifully handcrafted European cello, made from exceptionally high-quality tonewood. This instrument has been spirit varnished in the UK and set up to the highest standards. Its shape follows the Ruggieri form, characterized by a rounder aesthetic and a more arched top plate and back. This voluminous design contributes to the cello’s generous and warm tone, making it a joy to play. The craftsmanship is exemplary, as evident in the finely inlaid purfling. The top plate features a striking wide-grain tonewood, which enhances the cello’s openness and responsiveness, offering a truly dynamic and expressive playing experience.
Condition
This is a new cello, offering the significant advantage of being structurally flawless and aesthetically unblemished. This cello has already undergone that crucial process for a year, allowing the wood to settle and the sound to develop naturally. Additionally, a new soundpost has been expertly fitted to refine and enhance its tonal balance. As a result, this instrument is fully matured and ready to inspire any musician.
The setup
Working on a new setup is both a joy and a journey of discovery, and when done with love and care, the results are deeply rewarding for both the luthier and the player. We have carefully experimented with different tailpieces, endpins, string combinations, bridge types, and, most importantly, the precise positioning of the soundpost to achieve the best possible tonal balance. This Ruggieri-inspired cello is currently strung with Obligato strings on the lower three and a Larsen A, offering a beautifully warm yet articulate sound, perfectly suited for a wide range of musical styles.
